Douglas Mishkin
Biography
Doug is a partner in our New York office. Following six years at the National Football League, he joins BCLP with rare experience in U.S. gambling and sports betting transactions, having handled every major gambling-related deal for the NFL (including the League’s first gambling sponsorships, products license, and sports betting data and live video distribution agreements). Prior to the NFL, Doug worked in Las Vegas as SVP, Legal & Business Affairs of international sports betting technology company Metric Gaming, where Doug oversaw the company’s legal and regulatory matters (including its first sportsbook platform distribution agreements and the successful application for its first gambling license).
During his tenure at the NFL, Doug was also instrumental in shaping the League’s sponsorship and media commercial gambling policies in the wake of the Supreme Court declaring the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act unconstitutional – drawing on industry experience to develop the policies governing the League’s (and its 32 member clubs’) gambling-related commercial activities.
Doug also supported the NFL’s Compliance and Government Affairs departments, advising on NFL personnel-related gambling policies and the League’s sports betting legislative initiatives, and serving as the League’s legislative counsel in support of its sports betting-related advocacy efforts.
Outside gambling-specific matters, Doug has handled a wide variety of commercial transactions – including the NFL’s renewal of its ticketing network deal with Ticketmaster – and has written or advised on every new and updated League commercial policy since 2017, including for blockchain-based digital assets.
Doug is known among his clients and peers as an approachable, trusted advisor who closes deals by quickly identifying issues and providing practical, business-oriented solutions. With nearly a decade of in-house counsel experience, Doug understands and anticipates business needs to consistently drive efficient, valuable outcomes for his clients.
