Geoffrey M. Pipoly
Biography
Geoff is a litigator and appellate advocate. He has briefed and argued cases in numerous state and federal appellate courts throughout the country, including the Supreme Court of the United States. He also briefs and argues critical motions in federal and state trial courts.
Geoff has experience litigating a variety of federal and state constitutional matters, including First Amendment, Fifth Amendment, Fourteenth Amendment, and Supremacy Clause issues; administrative law matters, including claims arising under the Administrative Procedure Act; appellate preservation; mass torts; class actions; and trial evidence matters (with a focus on expert witness matters).
Geoff maintains a robust pro bono practice, including more than eight years serving as counsel to Haitian Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders in multiple federal lawsuits challenging the government’s efforts to terminate that humanitarian protection. Most recently, Geoff was lead counsel in Miot v. Trump, a case challenging on both statutory and constitutional grounds the federal government’s attempt to strip TPS from over 350,000 Haitian nationals lawfully residing in the United States. Geoff argued Miot in the Supreme Court of the United States.
For his work on the TPS cases, Geoff has been interviewed in numerous local and national media, including repeated interviews with The New York Times, Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, NPR News, Bloomberg, CBS News, NBC News, ABC News, Lawfare, Scripps, Reuters, and the Associated Press.
